| | | Day-By-Day Itinerary | Day 1-2 : Welcome to Rome Enjoy your flight to the capital of Italy. Arrive in the Eternal City and meet your bilingual EF Tour Director, who will accompany you throughout your stay. | | Day 3 : Rome See the grassy ruins of the Forum Romanum, once the heart of the Roman Empire, and admire the fragments of Rome's glorious past. Also visit the Colosseum, where as many as 50,000 spectators once watched gladiators battle for their lives. On your guided walk, view the Pantheon and take in the scene around the Trevi Fountain—its name comes from its location at the intersection of three roads (tre vie). Tonight, a professional pizzaiolo teaches you how to make pizza! | | | | Day 4 : Vatican City See the world's largest dome in St. Peter's Basilica, located in the world's smallest country—Vatican City. Marvel at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo created his glorious frescoes. Later, opt to travel to Rome's catacombs to see Christian burial grounds dating from the 2nd century and journey along the Appian Way, the most celebrated highway of the Roman Republic. | | Day 5 : Florence Join an optional excursion to Florence, birthplace of the Italian language and the Renaissance. See Piazza della Signoria (the hub of Medici power) and the imposing marble Duomo. | | Day 6 : Ostia Antica Enjoy a half-day of sightseeing to explore the ruins of Ostia Antica, a former Roman port city. Founded in the 3rd century B.C., Ostia was the first Roman colony. Stroll amidst the ancient baths, temples and villas of this picturesque setting. | | Day 7-8 : Extension to Pompeii and Capri Extend your stay two days and venture to Pompeii. When Mt. Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79, volcanic ash completely buried this Roman resort. With an expert as your guide, see the ruins of this fully excavated city. After spending the night in Sorrento, take a boat ride to the Isle of Capri, where you’ll enjoy an island cruise (weather permitting). Later, return to Rome. | | Day 9 : Depart for home Depart for home. |
