The Major conflicts we will study include: The French Revolution From the excesses of the French Aristocracy, poor harvests and failed economic reforms, we will examine the rise of the 3rd estate, the Reign of Terror, the execution of Louis XVI and the rise of Napoleon. This is a study of class struggle, the demand for rights and the exclamation of Liberti, Equaliti, and Franterniti! Napoleonic Wars - From the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, we see his Gran Armee of over 400,000 march through western Europe. It is only at the fateful battle of Borodino that Napoleon suffers defeat and is exiled to the island Elba of from France. After a failed attempt to bring about economic changes by Louis XVIII, Napoleon returns from prison to rule for his 100 days! In the end, this brilliant and flamboyant military leaders is crushed in the fields of Waterloo by Wellington of Britain and Gebhard Von Blucher from Germany. Franco-Prussian War - Started by Otto Von Bismarck in a an insulting letter sent to the French King, Germany is able to trick France in to attacking and suffers a terrible defeat, losing the coveted lands of Alsace and Lorraine. Zulu Wars - Zulu tribesmen rise up against British settlements and British forces in South Africa. Boer Wars - Across the trans-Vaal, British forces engage Dutch Settlers (the Boers) in a brutal war over the fertile lands of south central Africa.
